Dolores, Colorado
The former Rio Grande & Southern train depot
Dolores is named for the river it is located on. The town was built to replace another town that is now beneath the waters of McPhee Reservoir. The site is also on the old route of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad. The town site itself is contained within a narrow valley along the Dolores River but there are extensive built-up areas upstream in the valley floor and on the high ground above the valley's rim.
Nearby attractions include the Anasazi Heritage Center and McPhee Reservoir. A bit further to the west is Canyons of the Ancients National Monument.
