Prowers County, Colorado

Prowers County is in the Arkansas River Valley in southeastern Colorado, up against the Kansas border.

Named in honor of John W. Prowers, a prominent early pioneer in the area, Prowers County contains 1,640 square miles of land and 4 square miles of water.

Prowers County was first crossed east/west by traders following the Santa Fe Trail along the Arkansas River. Then the railroad built through the area in the late 1870's. Today, the primary travel route is along US Highway 50.
