Kim, Colorado

Kim was probably quite the town back in the days before the Dust Bowl. There was once a small business district a couple of blocks off the US 160 but not any more. Today it looks like most of what goes on in Kim centers around the highway equipment depots, the schools and the one gas station/garage. I've heard that most of the farmers and ranchers do their shopping in La Junta, because it's closer than either Trinidad or Springfield.

As usual, I took photos of whatever grabbed me in the moment. Kim is on that line where the flatness of the plains starts to give way to the canyons and arroyos of more arid country. West of here, things aren't quite as green and the road isn't as straight and flat as it is east of here. But it's still about 60 miles to Trinidad.
