Ignacio, Colorado

Ignacio is the capital of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe and home of former US Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell. The town is named for Ute Chief Ignacio, a tribal leader in the 1800's. The settlement is a site on the Old Spanish Trail. Ignacio bills itself as a "tri-ethnic community." Probably the largest employer in the area is the Sky Ute Casino Resort.
