Scenic, Historic and Backcountry Byways in Washington
Along the Strait of Juan de Fuca Highway
When the National Scenic Byways program first came about (back in 1989), I think the State of Washington had a hard time trying to pick roads that fit the program. In the end, though, they made some really good choices. There's something for everyone here, from high mountain forests to barren, wide-open, high latitude desert to rainforest islands. Drive some of these roads and you'll see the best Washington has to offer.
