Wambaw Swamp Wilderness
A 4,755-acre property, Wambaw Swamp Wilderness has been characterized as the least visited location in South Carolina. No trails, no amenities of any sort, no campsites, no dry camping areas, muck, insects, snakes... And as often as the area is wet, there is almost never enough water to float a canoe for any distance.
The majority of the landscape is a river-bottom hardwood swamp ringed with stands of pine. The understory is a dense mat of pickerel weed, sedges, wild orchids, ferns and lizard's tail. There are also plenty of water moccasins, copperheads and rattlesnakes to go around.
