National Wildlife Refuges in Wyoming

Seedskadee National Wildlife Refuge

The Mortenson Lake National Wildlife Refuge was established specifically to save the endangered Wyoming toad (which occurs nowhere else on Earth), and is closed to the public. A section of Hutton Lake NWR was modified to provide a second home for the Wyoming toad, just in case something went wrong at Mortenson Lake. The National Elk Refuge supports one of the largest elk herds in North America. The other NWR's in Wyoming provide necessary protected resting and nesting areas for migratory birds, most of which are just passing through headed north or south with the seasons.
