McClellan Creek National Grassland

Wild turkey on McClellan Creek National Grassland

McClellan Creek National Grassland is a 1,449-acre property in the panhandle of Texas. This was a rolling prairie countryside with scattered clumps of small trees and bushes... until the Interstate 40 Wildfire swept through the area in February 2006. Most of the grassland has recovered nicely now but that fire took out virtually every tree in 750,000 acres.

McClellan Creek National Grassland is administered by Cibola National Forest out of an office in Albuquerque, New Mexico. There is a local ranger district office in Cheyenne, Oklahoma.
