Wilderness Areas

  • Big Slough Wilderness

Davy Crockett National Forest is a 160,647-acre property between Lufkin and Crockett, Texas. Like the other US Forest Service properties in Texas, Davy Crockett National Forest is administered out of a single office in Lufkin, Texas, but there is a local district office in Ratcliff.

This is an area of pine-hardwood woodlands on a flat-to-gently-rolling terrain. The forest surrounds Ratcliff Lake and offers camping, picnicking, a bathhouse, boat ramps and multiple hiking trails. Dispersed camping is allowed in most areas of the forest except during hunting season (and for good reason).
