Blackjack Springs Wilderness

Blackjack Springs Wilderness is a 5,908-acre property northeast of Eagle River, WI on the Nicolet section of Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Protected on the property are four large crystal-clear springs, the headwaters of Blackjack Creek, part of the Eagle River and Wisconsin River drainages. Also on the property is Whispering Lake and several other small streams and wetland areas.

This is an area of rolling and uneven topography, typical of the landscape left behind as the glaciers retreated at the end of the Wisconsin Glaciation about 10,000 years ago. The area has seen extensive logging since the mid-1800's and evidence of old roads and railroad grades is still melting back into the forest. Fishing, hunting, camping and hiking are among the most popular uses of the wilderness and the property is crossed by the North Country National Scenic Trail. Camping stays are limited to 14 days and visitors may have to pay a $5 parking fee.
