George Parks Highway
George Parks Highway: A view from the South Denali Wayside
Nenana River Wayside
The George Parks Highway used to be known as the Anchorage-Fairbanks Highway. The 230-mile section of highway between the South Denali Wayside and Fairbanks became a National Scenic Byway in 1989. Views and recreation along the route are spectacular, especially in the Denali region.
There are also excellent recreational opportunities available outside the Denali region, like whitewater rafting the Chulitna or Nenana Rivers, visiting the Alaska Veterans Memorial, the Alaska Railroad Museum or the Alfred Starr Cultural Center. But for many folks, the time spent in Denali National Park is the highlight of the journey.
